Christmas Chalkboard Printable and the Importance of Being Flexible
I had a big list of things I was going to get finished this evening. The house needs a major cleaning, the Christmas stuff needs to start going up, there are recipes I need to cook and photograph so that I can share them with you all, and my couch is covered with unfolded laundry. My son’s new girlfriend is also coming over for dinner this week. Things need to be prepared. I had big plans for tonight.
But I’m tired and my head hurts and my back is a little sore because I moved boxes for several hours at work. I decided to allow myself a little break before I started on my to-do list, but I had an unexpected visit from a sweet girl who I never get to spend any time with anymore. She and her sister used to spend time with my kids every week. Now everybody is just about grown-up and we rarely see each other. I miss those days so much!
So my Rachel decided, out of the blue, to stop and see us and everything I needed to do suddenly became absolutely NOT important! We had a wonderful visit and I’m hoping she’ll be able to come back soon and maybe, stay longer. Moments spent with people you love are more important than anything you could ever cook or decorate or write about. Those moments are part of what makes life so beautiful and worth living.
Whether it is the holiday season or just an average ordinary day, make time for conversation. Make time for impromptu visits. Make time to just be together. Be flexible. So the house doesn’t get cleaned or your new article doesn’t get posted or your to-do list doesn’t get any of the to-dos marked off. There are worse things. No one will remember how clean things were or how much work you finished that day, but they will remember that you cared enough to spend time with them. And those are the memories you want people to have. Those are the ones that bring smiles. : )
Now, just so you don’t think I’m a total slacker, I have another free printable for you. I’m working on things that I can use to decorate with and I love the chalkboard printables. I think they are my absolute favorites right now. I made this one to print out for myself (it’s 8×10) and I let Spizzie choose between a plain one or one with hearts. She chose the hearts because she said it, “gives it a pop of color.” We really have to stop watching Flea Market Flip. Hope you enjoy!
