There is something about the Holiday season that makes it a perfect time for Hot Chocolate. It could be the weather or just the undeniable lure of a warm drink in front of the fire (or the television, if you are fireplace-less like we are)!
There is actually quite a bit of history to be found about Hot Chocolate and Hot Cocoa. Did you know that they weren’t exactly the same thing? I just thought they had two different names for the same drink, but apparently I was wrong! One is made with cocoa and the other made with…drumroll, please…chocolate! The result is somewhat similar, so I guess it’s just a matter of personal taste. However you decide to make it–whether with cocoa powder or actual chocolate–there is no denying that it is a wonderful treat!
And thanks to some wonderfully generous bloggers, I have several hot chocolatey drinks to share with you!
Homemade Peppermint Hot Cocoa from Happy Hour Projects…What an adorable gift this would be!
Hot Cocoa Mix from In The Kitchen With Jenny…I love this recipe! It’s very similar to the one I used to make and give as a Christmas gift.
Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix from The Thrifty Couple…This makes a huge portion, so there is enough to share with friends and still have some leftover for yourself!
Hazelnut Cocoa from Written Reality…This recipe calls for hazelnut spread, but it’s the nuts and whipped cream on top that really pull me in!!
Healthy Hot Cocoa from The Schneider Peeps…using honey as a sweetener!
Sugar Free Hot Cocoa from Ann’s Entitled Life…This sugar-free recipe has a secret ingredient!
Nutella Hot Chocolate from Mom vs The Boys…Great (and simple) recipe for all of the Nutella lovers out there!
Two Ingredient Hot Chocolate from Family Balance Sheet…Very easy and very chocolatey!!
Reindeer Hot Chocolate from Thrifty Jinxy…A super cute DIY gift idea AND a free printable!! Another great gift idea!
Delicious CrockPot Hot Chocolate from Hi! It’s Jilly…This is probably one of the richest sounding hot chocolate recipes I’ve seen. I’ll definitely be making some!!
All of these recipes sound fabulous to me and I’ll definitely be trying some of them very soon. Lest you think I’ve forgotten that sometimes grown-ups want a little extra “something” to warm them up, here are a few recipes to try. (Adult use only please!)
Bourbon Hot Cocoa from Ann’s Entitled Life…I know a few bourbon drinkers who would appreciate this one!
Hot Cocoa with Rum from Ann’s Entitled Life…Ummm, Rum. Now that will warm your bones!
Red Velvet Hot Chocolate Cocktail from Snappy Gourmet…Did you know there was such a thing as cake flavored vodka? I’m not much of a vodka drinker, but if they are going to start making this stuff taste like cake…
Hot Chocolate Martini from The Kitchen Is My Playground…This is definitely another one for the grown-ups. Just try not to go overboard roasting the marshmallows!
Spiked Candy Cane White Hot Chocolate from Hezzi-D’s Books and Cooks…I can imagine this tastes like the peppermint Hershey kisses. I really, really love those!
Well, there you have it! That should be enough hot chocolate/cocoa to get you at least halfway through the Christmas Season! Do you have a favorite chocolate drink recipe you can’t live without during the holidays?
Great list–I’ll definitely be sharing! Thanks for including my 2 ingredient hot chocolate post.
