Clear the Clutter Challenge Day 6: Laundry, Laundry, Laundry…

May 29, 2016 by Beth

Well, we’ve made it to Challenge Day 6 and today’s focus is going to be on the laundry room.  I know that not all laundry rooms are created equal and some are little more than a closet or a part of the bathroom.  If that’s your situation, that’s awesome…if for no other reason than it doesn’t have to be a separate challenge.  You can incorporate it into something else and that leaves more time for another pile of clutter you might need to dedicate yourself to.  I told you this thing was versatile!

My laundry room, however, is a room unto itself.  That sounds great until you realize it’s also a storage room and it gets filled with things no one knows what to do with.  There is no rhyme or reason–there’s just stuff!

I honestly hate to look at the mess and the mere thought of going through it generally overwhelms me.  I’m determined to get through it this time, so I’m going to try a little trick I learned years ago.  I’m going to start in one corner and work my way around to the other side a little at a time.  (I’m really not sure why I never did this in there before.  Denial is my only excuse!)

Of course, there is always a never-ending pile of laundry to work through, so that will be part of the challenge.  There is actually more in there than usual, as Spizzie decided to clean her closet.  Guess the stuff on the floor didn’t smell as clean as she though it would.  ; )

Today, I will be:

  • Washing as much laundry as possible
  • Cleaning off the dryer
  • Cleaning out the shelves above the washer and dryer
  • Throwing away five things
  • Finding 10 things to sell or give away

That’s it.  Honestly, I’m cheating a little because I was planning on doing laundry.  I’m counting it anyway.  If you have a lot of laundry or a lot of clutter, please join the 30-Day Clear the Clutter Challenge and let me know how you’re combating the clutter in your house!!

Update:  I only got three loads of laundry finished, because they were fixing my dishwasher and the water was turned off.  I won’t complain.  I like having a dishwasher that actually washes things!!
