It’s fall! And the front porch is finally decorated. It’s confession time though. I had absolutely no intention of decorating our front porch. None. Zip. Zilch. Nada.
With all of the health issues and home repair and family life and everything else going on, I just didn’t have the will for it. Plus, I’m just not strong enough to do all the cleaning that it needs and my husband’s idea of cleaning off the porch and mine are two totally different things!
My idea was to just leave it “as is” until sometime in November and then start cleaning/decorating for Christmas. In the meantime, I entered this contest over at The Holidaze Craze that I knew I would never win. Except…I won it!
The prize was three huge–and I mean HUGE–boxes of fall decorating items and a super cute metal bench. I couldn’t just leave that all sitting there in those boxes, now could I?!? I enlisted a little help with lifting and moving things and dragging out our own fall decorations and then I went to work.
Now, the porch still needs to be scrubbed down, repaired, and repainted (and I’d love to replace those iron columns–they are in rough shape), but it looks really pretty and all fall-y. It’s probably the prettiest fall porch we’ve ever had. We’re not even worrying with Halloween decorations this year, so this will carry through Thanksgiving. I might even add a mum or a real pumpkin or two!
There were so many cute things in this prize package that it’s hard to say which is my very favorite. I do so love that “Happy Fall Y’all” sign, but unfortunately it was too heavy to hang on my door. *sad sigh* The metal bench has a great farmhouse feel…raise your hand if you love farmhouse!
My barn star was hanging on the wall, but the other bench that we had was smaller and now it’s not centered. The Super Trooper promised to hang it back up for me, but I don’t mind the way it looks leaning against the bench.
The pumpkin and buffalo plaid pennant is adorable and there is a pillow that matches. Honestly, I’m totally in love with this milk can. It looks old and weathered and there is something about it that just appeals to me. It’s filled with a bunch of flowers bought at the Dollar Tree through the years. Not a bad look!
Of course, I couldn’t leave out the Pumpkin Man gourd my Momma painted for me many years ago. Her painted gourds are among some of my most treasured possessions.
All in all, I’m satisfied with how it turned out. I even decorated a tree! (Mostly because there wasn’t anywhere to store it–haha.) The hay bales light up too. Unfortunately, we don’t have an outlet and the extension cord we keep for Christmas lights was MIA. Bummer.
There was enough in the prize package that our decorations weren’t necessary, but I wanted to incorporate the old with the new. Happily, they work together and the porch looks amazing. Now I can concentrate on other fall stuff like sweatshirts and soup and pumpkin pie!!
