Welcome to our Merry & Bright Christmas Living Room!
Merry Christmas! I hope the entire holiday season has been a blessing to you all. It certainly has gone by faster than I imagined it would! I don’t feel like we’ve had our decorations up long enough to fully enjoy them, but I’m loving our Christmas living room this year. It’s mostly done in traditional Christmas colors, but I call it Merry & Bright because that’s how it makes me feel when I look at it. I hope you enjoy it too!
This year I basically used Christmas decor that I already had. I just changed up the arrangements a little. I did spend a little money earlier this year on a red child’s rocking chair that I sat Santa in under the tree. It was $8, but I’ll get plenty of use out of it! I also put my sled beside the tree with a teddy bear and some small gifts in it, but it didn’t show up well in any of the photos. Basically, there were so many gifts under and beside the tree that you couldn’t see those decorations well. Not that I’m complaining…my husband and kids really spoiled me this year!
Here’s the full tree…
This Santa gourd will forever be one of my favorite things. My sweet Momma painted it decades ago. She’s so very talented!
I also love the Christmas typewriter. It belongs to my daughter, but she doesn’t have space for it in her room here or at college, so I leave it on the table most of the time and just decorate with it. It’s perfect for the “Dear Santa” letter!
Behind the typewriter, on the coffee table, is where I keep my red coal bucket. My Momma also bought that for me. I use it to display different things throughout the year and sometimes just to catch all the stuff we leave laying around! For Christmas, I filled it with some greenery, metal snowflake, a favorite Christmas photo, pillow, faux gift, and some little odds and ends. My daughter was practicing knitting and made the snowflake, so I threw that in there too!
Decorating the various shelves is always a lesson in patience and creativity. Sometimes I just throw things together to see what they look like. And sometimes I leave them that way!
I found this table runner at the same Vendor’s Market where I purchased the little red rocking chair. It looked like one I’d seen in a Pottery Barn catalog a year or two ago and it was just $12, so I bought it! I think it looks perfect on my television cabinet.
The only room that has a different theme every year is the hallway, so all the other rooms are a mish-mash of red, stripes, plaid or gingham, Santa, snowflakes, trees, and whatever else I throw in the mix! I love to use books, photos, and every day items to round out the vignettes or decorate the trees.
And of course, we can’t forget the Christmas tree! This is tree is so beautiful, but it’s such a booger to decorate. The hooks and strings never want to stay on the branches. Sometimes I just shove things in and hope they stay. That’s what I did with all of the ribbon bundles!!
Here’s the tree at night with the lights out…so peaceful.
And a few of the decorations…
I love this little sign. I do Believe!!
Here’s a little peek at the kitchen. I didn’t do much in there this year and it desperately needs to be painted and refloored, so there aren’t a lot of photos. We’re working on finishing the pantry and then I can move the shelves and do all kinds of scrubbing and fixing and decorating!
And of course, we can’t forget the real reason we celebrate Christmas.
Happy Birthday Jesus! You were the best gift ever!
That’s it for this Christmas season. I hope you enjoyed your little visit to our Christmas living room! Come back soon!!
