We Need A Little Christmas: 2014 Living Room Decor!
Good news, good news! My living room is completely decorated! Unfortunately, there are no presents in it. I’ll get to that eventually…
Decorating around here has taken so long this year. I had no idea I was such a busy person and I don’t remember it ever taking me this long. I think maybe I’m just getting slower. Or maybe other people don’t try to decorate every available surface the way that I do!
I love decorating for Christmas though. It’s the only time of year that the house looks super pretty. I just wish I had a little bit bigger entertaining space so that I could have more people over to enjoy it.
Some of the vignettes stayed the same this year. I also didn’t buy anything new, but instead repurposed things from around the house. I did print out one photo and a free printable from Shannon at AKA Design + Life. (Thanks Shannon!)
There are three shelves hanging in my living room and the “Believe” shelf is my very favorite! This one didn’t really change from last year. I was originally using the little red sleigh in my hallway, but I wanted to recreate the same look I had last year so I replaced it with a red basket. I love this shelf the most because it not only has a great picture of my babies, but also two of the gourds my Momma painted for me. Yep, I’m sentimental like that!
There used to be three windows in the living room. When we built on, one was turned into a doorway and the other was covered up. We just framed the recessed area and my intent was to make it into a chalkboard wall or a small gallery area. I just haven’t done that yet!
The one shelf that is left over a window is the one I have the most trouble out of. I can never seem to decorate it in a way that feels “right” to me. This year I decided to use it to showcase my Nativity. That’s also where I put the free Joy To the World printable. (Sorry about the color of the photo…the light is weird right there!)
The other shelf isn’t over a window. The Super Trooper hung it up for me to use as a sort of faux mantle. Mostly, he just uses it to hang his uniform on so that he can polish the buttons and watch television at the same time. Some of the decorations were on this shelf last year. They just got scooted over and mixed with a few more! I found the big H in my hoard of craft supplies and painted it red. Score one for the craft hoard!!
Here’s another view of the shelf. My sweet sister bought me the Merry Christmas banner. Isn’t it cute?!?
The top of the cabinet got a new edition this year, but I’m not sure how long it will stay. People kept scooting things over so that they have a place to put their drinks and phones and such. Ruins the look of things!
The coffee table is showcasing some of the wonderful things my Momma has painted, along with an antique bucket (it has another name, but it escapes me at the moment) that she gave me for my birthday and my favorite Christmas book.
The entertainment system is one of the least favorite decorating spaces in this house. It is just not beautification friendly. Still, I try. I gave myself a break on the bottom shelf, so that’s not in the picture! Present space is a premium because the tree sits so close to the floor, so I plan to use the bottom shelf for gifts. I’m also planning to use a big metal bucket in case we need more room.
I love these gourds!!
The tree is finally finished. Well, except that my tree topper keeps sliding over. I guess I’ll just keep fixing it!
And last, but not least, the stockings were hung…
Now that the living room is complete, it’s time to finish the rest of the house. Wish me luck!!
Super cute! Love how you hung your stocking on the shelf pegs. I’m taking super long to decorate this year too. I think it’s because I forced myself not to decorate in November and to enjoy Thanksgiving.
Thank you! I don’t have a mantle or anywhere to really put stocking holders. I have a devil of a time keeping my husband from hanging his coats over top of them though!! It’s taking me longer than I wanted to decorate and I even started before Thanksgiving!! Maybe someday I’ll get it together. : )
